Travels with Bob
Over the last 34+ years I have spent a large portion of my time:
- Traveling to many of the rotten stinking low-life ports in the far-east, India, Europe, the U.S. and part of Central and South America. (you would not believe the odor at the fish dock in Sanya, Hainan Island, China, or the clamor and chaos at Mergui, Myanmar (you know they actually have a 9 hole golf course there?) or the pollution in Tanjung Priok harbor in Jakarta).
- Spending time in some of the worst sailor-dives around. (try Dolly's in Surabaya, Indonesia or the Red Rooster in Maracaibo, Venezuela or the Brown Derby in Berwick, Louisiana, or the International Club in Corinto, Nicaragua, the Elbow Room in Dutch Harbor, Alaska... I could go on for a while here...).
- Sampling the fresh illegal caviar in the market at Baku, Azerbaijan.
- Wasting innumerable hours in many of the major airports and quite a few of the minor, dinky rotten airports in the world. Try the airport in Okha on Sakalin Island, Russia or in Jamnagar, Gujarat State, India. (scratch that, the one in Mergui, Myanmar was actually worse) or even the Pagerungan Besar International airport on an island in Indonesia or the airstrip on Cagayan de Sulu Island in the Philippines. Not to mention the time actually flying.
And for what?. . .I LOVED IT!!!!
Traveling like that gave me the opportunity to see places, meet people and do things I would never have had the chance to see otherwise. I'm one of those who can truly say "Been there, Done that"
